Lexus Hybrid Service: RX 450h, ES 300h, NX Hybrids and More

Lexus has offered hybrid versions of many of its most popular models, including the RX 450h, ES 300h and the NX hybrids. Along with regular maintenance, a Lexus hybrid needs attention in a few areas a gas-only car doesn’t:

  • Hybrid battery testing: We test the health of the high-voltage battery so you know its condition before it becomes a problem. That’s also worth doing before you buy a used Lexus hybrid.
  • Inverter coolant service: The inverter, which manages power between the battery and the electric motors, has its own separate cooling loop. That coolant needs service on its own schedule and is often missed.
  • Hybrid brakes: Regenerative braking handles much of the slowing, so pads often wear more slowly than on a conventional car. Because they get less use, calipers and slide pins can stick or corrode, so we check the whole system rather than just pad thickness. Frequently Asked Questions About Lexus Service

No. Under the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, having maintenance done at an independent shop doesn’t void your Lexus factory warranty, as long as the maintenance is done on schedule and documented. We follow the Lexus factory maintenance schedule and give you an itemized invoice for every visit, so hang on to those. Repairs covered by the factory warranty itself are still handled by a Lexus dealer.

It depends on the engine. Most newer Lexus engines use a timing chain, which doesn’t have a set replacement interval but depends on clean oil and regular oil changes. Some older V6 and V8 engines use a timing belt, which has to be replaced on schedule. Your owner’s manual will say, or ask us and we’ll look it up for your model and engine. There’s no single answer. Hybrid battery life depends on age, mileage, heat and driving habits, and hot Folsom summers are hard on batteries. Yes, we can test the hybrid battery in your Lexus and tell you where it stands. If your Lexus is newer, check whether the battery is still covered by the Lexus hybrid warranty before paying for a replacement.
