We follow a systematic approach to diagnose and repair exhaust system problems accurately.
1. Visual Inspection and Testing
We raise the vehicle on a lift and inspect the entire exhaust system from the manifold to the tailpipe. We look for rust, holes, cracks, loose hangers, and damaged components. We also check for soot deposits that indicate leak locations. For suspected leaks, we use smoke testing to pinpoint exact locations.
2. Diagnostic Scanning
If your check engine light is on, we scan for diagnostic codes related to the exhaust system. Common codes indicate oxygen sensor failures, catalytic converter efficiency problems, or exhaust leaks. We use live data to verify sensor operation and identify the root cause.
3. Component Repair or Replacement
Based on our diagnosis, we repair or replace damaged components. Small leaks in pipes can sometimes be welded. Rusted or damaged sections require replacement. We use quality OEM or OEM-equivalent parts that fit correctly and last. Common replacements include mufflers, catalytic converters, flex pipes, oxygen sensors, and exhaust manifold gaskets.
4. System Verification
After repairs, we start the engine and verify no leaks exist. We clear diagnostic codes and test drive the vehicle to confirm proper operation. We verify oxygen sensors are reading correctly and the catalytic converter is functioning. For emissions-related repairs, we ensure the vehicle will pass smog testing.
