Transmission Repair & Service for Toyota, Honda, Lexus & Acura in Folsom, CA

We diagnose, service, and repair automatic and CVT transmissions. Every job starts with finding out what is actually wrong.

Why Choose Our Transmission Service

Diagnosis Before Repair CVT & Automatic Exceptional Warranty

We repair and service transmissions for Toyota, Honda, Lexus, and Acura vehicles at our Folsom shop. That covers conventional automatics, CVTs, and the sealed transmissions Toyota and Lexus have used for years. We handle fluid changes, leak repairs, shift quality problems, and electronic faults.

Transmission work goes wrong when a shop guesses. A slipping or shuddering transmission can point to worn internals, but it can also come from a failing shift solenoid, a bad sensor, low fluid, or outdated control software. Those repairs differ in cost by thousands of dollars.

So we diagnose first. We scan for transmission codes, check fluid condition and level, and road test the vehicle before quoting anything. You get a clear explanation of the problem and a firm price before we start.

Our Transmission Service Process

1. Scan and Road Test

We pull transmission codes and live data, then drive the vehicle to feel the symptom ourselves. A shudder at 45 mph and a hard 1-2 shift point to different causes, and a description over the phone rarely tells the whole story.

2. Check Fluid Condition and Level

We inspect the fluid for color and smell. Dark, burnt-smelling fluid means heat damage has already happened. On sealed Toyota and Lexus units, we check the level at the correct fluid temperature through the overflow plug, which is the only accurate way to measure it.

3. Diagnose the Actual Cause

We separate electronic faults from mechanical wear. A solenoid, sensor, or valve body issue is a contained repair. Internal clutch or gear damage is not. We tell you which one you are looking at, and we do not quote a repair we have not confirmed.

4. Service or Repair With the Correct Parts

We use the fluid your manufacturer specifies. Honda Genuine CVT fluid for Honda and Acura CVTs, Toyota ATF WS for most Toyota and Lexus automatics. Parts are OEM or OEM-equivalent. Fluid changes are usually done the same day, and most electronic repairs take one to two days.

5. Verify and Document

We road test again to confirm the repair, reset adaptive shift settings where the vehicle calls for it, and record the mileage and next service interval. If we find a condition worth watching, we tell you rather than waiting for it to come back.

Signs Your Transmission Needs Attention

  • Slipping or delayed engagement. The engine revs but the car hesitates before moving, or an upshift takes longer than it used to. Caught early this is often repairable without major work.
  • Shudder at steady speed. A vibration around 40 to 50 mph that feels like driving over rumble strips. On Honda and Acura CVTs this frequently traces to fluid condition.
  • Hard or clunking shifts. Shifts that jolt the car instead of blending together. This can be a solenoid or valve body problem rather than internal wear.
  • Red or brown fluid on the driveway. Transmission fluid leaks from pan gaskets, axle seals, and cooler lines. Running low on fluid causes damage quickly, so this is worth checking right away.
  • Check engine light with a shift complaint. Transmission codes often set before the symptom becomes constant. Scanning at that point gives you the cheapest version of the repair.
  • No service record past 60,000 miles. If you bought a used vehicle without history, a fluid inspection tells you where you stand. We will say so if the fluid still looks good.

Why Choose Shannon Family Automotive

We Diagnose Before We Quote

Transmission replacement is one of the most expensive repairs a driver gets quoted, and it is sometimes recommended without a full diagnosis. We confirm the cause first. If the fix is a solenoid rather than a rebuild, that is what we will tell you. Our second opinion service exists for exactly this situation.

Brand-Specific Experience

Our ASE-certified technicians work on Toyota, Honda, Lexus, and Acura vehicles every day. That includes Honda and Acura CVT behavior, the sealed Toyota and Lexus units that need a temperature-specific fill procedure, and the 9-speed automatics used in some Acura models.

The Correct Fluid, Every Time

We stock manufacturer-specified transmission fluids rather than a universal product with an additive. CVT fluid, ATF WS, and conventional ATF are not interchangeable, and substituting one for another causes the failure it was supposed to prevent.

Backed by Our Exceptional Warranty

Transmission work we perform is backed by our exceptional warranty. Coverage depends on the parts you choose, and we walk you through the options before you approve anything. See our warranty page for the tier breakdown.

Serving Folsom and the Surrounding Area

We serve Toyota, Honda, Lexus, and Acura owners in Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Rancho Cordova, and Gold River. Loaner vehicles are available when a repair keeps your car overnight.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends on what is wrong. A fluid change runs about $150 to $400 depending on your transmission type and fluid capacity. Electronic repairs such as a shift solenoid or valve body fall in a wider range, often $400 to $1,500. We diagnose first and give you a firm number before any work starts. Call our Folsom shop at (916) 985-9800 for a quote on your specific vehicle.

It depends on your vehicle and how you drive. Honda calls for CVT fluid every 25,000 to 30,000 miles under severe driving conditions. Many Toyota automatics follow a 60,000-mile interval for demanding use. We look up the interval for your exact model and year rather than applying one number to every car.

Yes. Many Toyota and Lexus models use a sealed transmission with no dipstick, which is often described as filled for life. The fluid still degrades. Setting the level requires bringing the fluid to a specific temperature and checking it at the overflow plug. We have the equipment and the procedure for this.

Yes. A CVT uses a belt and pulley system instead of fixed gears, and it is common in the Honda Civic, Accord, and HR-V. A CVT needs its own fluid and is more sensitive to fluid condition than a conventional automatic. Putting standard ATF in a CVT will damage it.

It is worth checking. Some symptoms that look like internal failure trace back to a solenoid, a sensor, low fluid, or a software issue, and those cost far less to fix. We will diagnose the transmission and tell you what we find, including when a replacement is the right call.
