1. Identify Your Drivetrain Configuration
A front-wheel-drive Accord has one differential built into the transaxle. An AWD MDX has a rear drive unit as well. A 4WD 4Runner adds a transfer case. We confirm which units your vehicle actually has before recommending anything.
2. Inspect for Leaks and Fluid Condition
We check the housings, seals, and breather tubes for leaks, then look at the fluid itself. Milky fluid points to water intrusion. Metallic content points to gear or bearing wear. Both change what we recommend next.
3. Drain and Refill With the Specified Fluid
We drain each unit and refill with the product your manufacturer lists, including Acura dual-pump fluid for SH-AWD rear differentials and the Toyota and Lexus gear oils matched to your model. We do not use a universal gear oil with an additive package.
4. Verify Fill Level and Check for Leaks
Differentials and transfer cases fill to a specific plug height, not a dipstick reading. We set the level correctly, replace crush washers, and check for seepage before the vehicle leaves.
5. Document and Advise on the Next Interval
We record the mileage and tell you when each unit is due again. If you tow or carry heavy loads, we adjust that interval and explain why. Most services are finished the same day.
